Freedom Scientific has released an updated technical support notice addressing a long standing vulnerability in the JAWS and Magic implementations by which speech would suddenly stop when encountering certain obscure strings of characters. We thank Freedom Scientific for resolving this issue, which has been recently impacting hundreds of blind users of e-mail discussion lists.
Daryl, just FYI, the issue you discuss in this entry is not screen reader-related one, it is the bug in the Eloquence synthesizer itself. The same bug has been affecting users of any AT solutions that rely on Eloquence synthesizer.
Do you know which exact word sequence can do the trick of crashing eloquence? I have found on their site that the misspelled words “seizure” and “have” could cause eloquence to crash, but they didn’d give the exact words (the reason is obvious :) )
